Building a Sports Cornice

Building a Sports Cornice

Materials:

- Styrofoam* brand foam
- one, nine-inch pre-cut star - one inch thick
- two, four-inch pre-cut stars
- one, 10-inch disk - one inch thick
- one, 12″ x 36″ sheet - two inches thick
- Acrylic paints — black, white, bright yellow, raw sienna, red, and - Orange
- Glue gun with low temperature glue sticks
- Pencil
- Serrated knife
- Paintbrushes
- Hammer
- Two finishing nails

Steps:

1. Using a serrated-edge knife, cut a 28-1/2″ x 3″ baseball bat figure out of a sheet of foam. Paint with raw sienna color.

2. Cut three-inch disk for baseball. Paint white and detail threads with red.

3. Using a pencil, trace a football shape onto sheet of foam. Cut out and paint with a mix of lightened raw sienna paint. Note: Lighten the raw sienna with a drop of white paint.

4. For basketball, paint a 10-inch disk with mixture of red and orange paints. Accent with black lines.

5. Paint stars bright yellow.

6. Place and glue basketball and nine-inch star under each end of bat. Glue football behind and in middle of bat. Accent basketball with four-inch stars.

7. To install cornice, hammer two finishing nails at each end of window. Gently push cornice onto nails. If more support is needed, place a dab of glue onto nails before pushing cornice in place.
