Calculating Lengths Required
Seeing as how mouldings are priced by the foot, but sold by the length, use this chart for ease of calculation. The top heading represents the length of the trim, and the left column heading is the footage required. Simply find where the two points meet and ROUND UP to the nearest length. Unlike natural wood trim all MDF is engineered and come in pre-determined lengths. Also keep in mind that you made need 10% for waste and mis-cuts. No extra allowance is required for cracks or knots like in natural wood either.

Ordering Flutes
When ordering custom fluted columns, you must specify three dimensions.
A, the over all height of the entire column face is 97″, Specify how many sides you would like. Keep in mind that you need 2 sides to make a pilaster and 4 sides to make a column. Specify whether you are ordering pilasters, partial, or full columns. B, and D are the uncut or unfluted top and bottom section. Lastly, C, the length of the flutes themselves.
To confirm, the sum of B + C + D should equal A, 97″. (we include 1 extra inch, in case of damage during shipping). (more…)
