Elite Mouldings Inc.: Cornices
Cornice moulding, cove moulding or crown mouldings has graced cottages and castles alike for centuries, but is uncommon in modern homes, mainly because it’s difficult and time-consuming to install.
Traditionally, elaborate cornice moulding was either made from moulded plaster sections, or built from solid wood such as oak, then cut to fit around the room. Primed paint-grade wood (pine or poplar) and MDF mouldings are the most popular types of moulding. Any gaps can be filled with paintable caulk and covered with paint, whereas flaws in stainable solid wood moulding is harder to mask.
Today’s easy-install, MDF mouldings are easier to paint and offer a variety of decorative profiles and can be cut more easily than solid wood. It’s a smart idea to prime the mouldings before they go up. All EliteTrim cornices are pre-primed and ready to paint
