Materials Required:
- Cornice Board Kit
- Polyester Batting (medium weight, bonded)
- Fabric
- Decorative Trim (braiding, fringe, rope, etc.)
- Scissors
- Utility Knife
- T-pins (optional)
- Low-Melt Hot Glue (optional)
- Fusible Bonding Tape or Fabric Glue (optional)
Steps:
1. Measure the window and add about 2″ on each side. (The 44″ kit fits a standard 40″ window. Trim if necessary).
2. Assemble polystyrene boards with glue and pins. Let completely dry. (The glue in the kit takes about eight hours. Low-melt hot glue will bond instantly).
3. Measure and cut fabric. If using a solid or non-directional fabric, turn it and use the length across the cornice board. A 1-3/4 yard piece of 48″-wide fabric will cover two boards. If using fabric with an up-and-down pattern, use the width of the fabric across the board and seam additional pieces to each end. 64″ wide x 24″ long will allow for a 1/2″ hem.
4. Measure and cut pieces to cover the inside of the cornice if desired.
5. Press material to remove wrinkles. Use fabric glue, fusible bonding tape or fray-preventing product on edges if desired.
6. Lay fabric out flat and place cornice facedown. Align so there is enough fabric to cover around all sides. Pin in place.
7. Cover the inside of the cornice in the same manner if desired.
8. Use mounting brackets to hang over window.
