Installing a Tennis Shoe Cornice

Product Type:

Materials:

- Styrofoam* brand foam
- one, 1″x12″x36″ sheet
- two, six-inch pre-cut hearts
- two, three-inch pre-cut hearts
- three, 2-1/2-inch pre-cut hearts
- Acrylic paints - blue, pink, yellow, purple, red, and green
- Wire-edged ribbon for decoration
- Glue gun with low temperature glue sticks
- Tennis shoe line art–four different shoes
- Pencil
- Paper
- Scissors
- Serrated knife
- Paintbrushes
- Floral picks
- Hammer
- Two finishing nails

Steps:

1. Using a copy machine, double the size of four different tennis shoes. Cut out the enlarged shoes to use as patterns.

2. Cut a 36″ x 3″ strip of Styrofoam for the support bar. Paint this bar blue.

3. Pin the patterns to the remaining piece of Styrofoam. Using a serrated knife, cut out the shapes of the shoes. Using a sharp pencil, trace the details of each shoe onto the surface.

4. Paint shoes to match the wallpaper or wall color in the child’s room. When dry, embellish the shoes with coordinating ribbons. To indicate laces, make holes in the Styrofoam shoes and lace ribbons through back, crossing on front like an actual shoe. For shoes with large ribbon laces, tuck small strips of ribbon into Styrofoam along rim of shoe. Tie large bow and pin it down with a floral pick.

5. Paint the six-inch pre-cut hearts pink, three-inch pre-cut hearts yellow, and the 2-1/2-inch hearts pink, yellow and purple. When dry, glue the six-inch hearts to each end of the support bar. Center and glue the three-inch hearts onto the six-inch hearts.

6. Position the six-inch hearts at the end of the support bar and glue into place. Position the tennis shoes in between the hearts on the support bar and glue into place. Accent the bar with the 2-1/2-inch hearts.

7. To install cornice, place nail at each end of window. You may want to measure down one inch from the top of the window for better placement. Gently push cornice onto nails. If more support is needed, add a dab of glue to nails before pushing cornice in place.
