Steps :
1. Press fabric as needed.
2. Refer to cutting layout to draw cornice sections onto foam sheets. Wax serrated knife with candle stub or paraffin. Use knife, or table saw, to cut sections from foam. Note: Third foam sheet becomes front of cornice and is left uncut.
3. Use glue gun to glue three floral picks, equally spaced, halfway into one edge of 12″ foam square. Apply foam glue to foam edge around picks. Use glue gun to glue protruding pick ends into one short end of uncut foam sheet. Let dry. Finished cornice front should measure 12″ x 48″.
4. Repeat Step 3, joining one short end of 5″ x 12″ foam section to 5″ x 36″ foam section. Let dry. Finished cornice top should measure 5″ x 48″.
5. Use photocopier to enlarge pattern 400%. Fold large piece of card stock in half. Position pattern’s dashed line on fold; trace and cut out. Open paper pattern. Use black marker to trace pattern across bottom edge of cornice front. Use knife or saw to cut out curve.
6. Join ends to top. Use glue gun to glue three picks into one short side of each cornice end section, leaving 3/4″ pick end protruding from foam. Apply plastic foam glue to foam edge. Use glue gun to apply glue to protruding pick ends. Press picks into bottom surface of cornice top, so cornice ends are flush with top.
7. Use glue gun to glue remaining picks halfway into front edge of top/ends assembly, spacing picks about 3″ apart. Apply plastic foam glue to foam edge around picks. Gently press cornice front onto pick tips. Using glue gun, spot glue foam edges between picks. Quickly and firmly press cornice front flush with cornice top/ends assembly. Let dry completely.
8. Cut one 23″ x 66″ rectangle from batting. Smooth batting over cornice, allowing excess to overlap bottom and back edges. Pin to secure. Wrap batting smoothly around foam edges to inside, trimming and mitering corners as needed. Pin to secure. Trim excess batting, allowing 1-1/2″ overlap inside each edge. Use glue gun to secure batting inside cornice. Let dry completely. Remove pins.
9. Taking note of stripe direction, cut one 23-1/2″ x 49″ and two 9-1/2″ x 12-1/2″ rectangles from decorator fabric. Press 1/2″ hems in short sides.
10. From solid fabric, cut one 5-1/4″ x 61-1/4″ top/side lining and one
11-1/4″ x 46-1/2″ front lining. Press 1/4″ hems in short sides and one long side of top/side lining and in all sides of front lining.
11. Overlapping cornice edge by 1/2″, glue hemmed edges of small, striped pieces to foam along top and front of cornice. Wrap excess fabric to inside bottom and back, mitering corners. Use glue gun to secure.
12. Pin 1-1/2″ of remaining striped fabric piece inside top of cornice, centering and aligning pressed edges at corners. Wrap fabric over top, down front and bottom edge, and 1-1/2″ inside bottom front of cornice. Adjust pressed hems at sides if needed. Trim excess fabric. Use glue gun to glue fabric inside top, over hems at top and front, and to inside bottom front. Remove pins.
13. Center and pin hemmed edge of top/side lining approximately 1″ from back, open edge. Use glue gun to secure. Remove pins. Center and glue lining to inside front of cornice, covering raw edges of top/side lining.
14. Pin fringe trim along sides and front of cornice, 1/4″ above bottom edge. Apply no-fray solution to trim where it will be cut at ends; let dry 30 minutes, then trim. Use fabric glue to adhere trim to cornice; let dry. Remove pins.
15. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to attach brackets to wall. Place completed cornice on brackets.
